Bio
Wendy X. Ordóñez was born in Cali, Colombia. She is a classically trained artist working primarily with oil and soft pastels.
She earned a certificate of portrait and figurative painting from The Academy of Portrait and Figurative Art at Florida International University in 2023. She holds a Master of Fine Arts and Master of Art Education from the same institution. She was the first-place winner of the Women in Visual Arts (WITVA) grant in 2019, and was admitted to the prestigious Florida Artist Group in 2025. Ordóñez’s work is in private collections in the United States and Colombia. She currently resides in Miami together with her husband and daughters.
Statement
I am an artist with a passion for color and the sensory
act of painting. My current body of work revolves around my experience of motherhood and capturing intimate moments of family life. I am putting brush to canvas and pastels to paper as
an exercise to encode fleeting memories in my mind. I savor the process by intensifying colors, applying gestural brushstrokes, and enhancing their narrative through deliberate composition
decisions. I am creating a record made up of snapshots of life I can go back to time and time again. My work is inspired by the brushwork, luminous palettes, and emotive intimacy of artists
like Joaquín Sorolla and Malcolm T. Liepke. My paintings celebrate the beauty and transience of these personal experiences, inviting viewers to connect with the universal through the deeply personal moments of everyday life.
